Bulldog Women's Soccer Defeated by Cal Lutheran
The University of Redlands women's soccer program suffered a tough defeat on Wednesday evening to Cal Lutheran University, 0-4. The loss dropped the Bulldogs to third place in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) standings.
The Regals got on the board early when Mayra Virgen one-timed a through ball from Melissa Abdelkerim into the back of the net. They doubled their lead not long after when Taylor Will and Kristina Hulse connected on a nice give-and-go play, with Hulse applying the finishing touches.
Desperate for some attack, the Bulldogs came out firing after the halftime break. Notching two corner-kicks and three shots within the first 10 minutes of the second half, the Maroon and Gray looked to be on the comeback trail. Freshman midfielder Summer Norquist (Boise, ID) was very unlucky to see her shot hit off the post, just missing out on cutting the Regal lead in half.
Cal Lutheran secured the win when Will tallied two goals in a three-minute span late in the second stanza.
Freshman midfielder Savannah Laursen (Boise, ID) led the Redlands attack on the day, recording all but three of the Bulldogs' nine total shots.
Redlands (6-3-1) returns home to host the University of St. Thomas (MN) on Friday afternoon at Farquhar Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
