Boxers Shutout By Bruins

NEWBERG, Ore. – The Pacific women's soccer team could not find the back of the net as George Fox shutout the Boxers 4-0 in Northwest Conference action on Wednesday evening at the Austin Sports Complex.
The Bruins opened the scoring in the 10th minute as Jamie Galbreath crossed to Melanie Gaither, who controlled the ball at midfield on a breakaway to find the back of the net.
George Fox would score again in the 23rd minute as Michelle Young crossed from the right side to Galbreath, who shot from 10 yards out past goalkeeper Brittany Hartmann (Sr., Portland, Ore.) to increase the score to 2-0.
The Boxers only shot twice in the first half, with their first shot coming from McKenna Davidson (Fr., Kailua, Hawaii). In the 35th minute, she fired, but was saved by Bruin goalkeeper Alyssa Montero. Kaitlyn Harper (Sr., Oregon City, Ore.) shot just one second before the halftime horn, but shot wide left.
After three Pacific shots, the Bruins scored their third goal when Young lofted a shot to the top left corner of the net in the 55th minute. Young would cap the scoring at 4-0 for the Bruins with her second goal of the evening, just six minutes later, off a penalty kick.
The Boxers outshot the Bruins in the second half 12-6, but could not get past goalkeeper Montero. Harper led the Boxers with four shots with three shots on goal. Hartmann (4-4-3) took the loss between the pipes, collecting two saves. Kayla Davidson (Jr., Kailua, Hawaii) came into the net in the 20th minute, tallying one save. Montero recorded the win in the net, collecting 10 saves.
The Boxers (5-5-3) return to Lincoln Park Stadium on Sunday to host the Lewis & Clark Pioneers. The match begins at noon.
