Women’s Soccer Stuns Kenyon in Overtime En Route to Third Straight Win
KENYON, Ohio – Despite being uncharacteristically dominated for large portions of Saturday's North Coast Athletic Conference tilt, Allegheny women's soccer found a way to bag its third consecutive victory as the team continued an inspired push down the stretch run of the regular season. Eight minutes into overtime, junior Michelle Holcomb cashed in on her first goal of the season to give the Gators a 1-0 victory at Mavec Field.
Allegheny, which was outshot, 20-5, in regulation, authored all four shots during the bonus action. Taking advantage of a corner during a sustained attack by the Gators, Lauren Miller served in a well-positioned ball, while Holcomb headed the pass from the right side past Kenyon net minder, Lauren Wolfe.
The Ladies smothered the Blue and Gold with an impressive attack in the second half, including a 12-3 edge in shots, although Allegheny's Kylie Mason made four of her six saves during the frame to keep Kenyon off the board. Mason was credited with her third straight clean sheet in the victory, while securing her seventh shutout of the season.
The Gators, who have played in the NCAC Tournament title game the last two seasons, were in serious jeopardy of missing the playoffs one week ago as the team started the conference slate with three straight setbacks. With three conference games remaining, Allegheny is just one point out of postseason contention and will have a chance to play its way into the playoffs during the final two weeks of the campaign.
