Offense Explodes for Six Goals in Shutout Win
Junior Jessica Bandrowski (Center Moriches, NY/Center Moriches) scored three goals in a game for the first time in her Keuka College career as the Storm blanked Morrisville State 6-0 Tuesday afternoon in Morrisville, NY.
Senior Nicole Sharick (Corfu, NY/Pembroke) added two goals to break her own record for most goals in a season, giving the three-time All-North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) forward 19 goals in 15 games for the Storm (8-5, 8-3 NEAC).
A stout Storm defense has now recorded shutouts in the last five matches, a streak of 462 straight minutes. The defense was led by senior Shelby Seeley (Livonia, NY/Livonia), juniors Britni Burch (Arkport, NY/Arkport), Christine Dedes (Shortsville, NY/Red Jacket) and Brooke Lovell (Arkport, NY/Arkport) and freshman Nina Fusco (Mechanicville, NY/Mechanicville).
Keuka hasn't allowed a goal since the 79th minute of a 3-1 loss to Lancaster Bible College on Sept. 28. During the shutout streak, the Storm is outscoring the opposition 30-0.
Bandrowski and Sharick each added assists in the win, which propelled the Green and Gold into sole possession of fourth place in the NEAC standings with one conference game remaining, Saturday's 1 p.m. road match against SUNYIT.
The top six teams in the NEAC qualify for the postseason tournament, which starts Oct. 31 and runs Nov. 3-4.
Bandrowski scored twice during a span of 12 minutes early in the contest, putting Keuka ahead 1-0 on a chip shot from 30 yards out in the ninth minute before ripping a shot from the outside left edge of the 18 in the 22nd minute.
Sharick extended the lead to 3-0 when she scored in the 31st minute as Keuka took a three-goal lead into halftime against the Mustangs (0-14-1, 0-12).
Sophomore Faith Garlington (Boonville, NY/Adirondack) added her first goal of the season in the 52nd minute before Bandrowski and Sharick each scored one minute apart late in the game to finish the scoring for the Storm.
Sharick, the Storm's all-time leading goal scorer, upped her career total to 53 goals and is currently third in the country among Division III players in goals per game (1.46). It was her eighth multi-goal game of the year.
Sharick has scored a goal in eight of the Storm's 13 games, and every time she's scored, she's had at least two goals, including a three-goal gem during a 4-1 road win over Gallaudet University on Sept. 23.
Bandrowski recorded the fifth multi-goal game of the year and is currently 21st in the nation in goals per game (1.15).
Sophomore Maggie Tower (Waterville, NY/home schooled) stopped three shots to earn the first win of her Keuka career.
