Perfection Just Short as Beavers Fall in Finale, 3-0

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – What a bittersweet ending to the regular season for the Beavers. The City College of New York women's soccer team (13-4, 5-1 CUNYAC) fell to the College of Staten Island Dolphins (11-5, 6-0 CUNYAC), 3-0, on Thursday afternoon at the College of Staten Island Soccer Complex.

CCNY will be the number two seed in the 2012 City University of New York Athletic Conference/ Applebee's Women's Soccer Championship and will host four-seed Lehman College on Wednesday, October 31 at Randall's Island Field 10.

City College defeated the Lightning in both contests this season, 4-0 on Sept. 24 in a CUNYAC matchup and 4-0 on Oct. 10 in a nonconference game.

The Beavers regular season comes to a close after setting single-season records in wins, shutouts, goals scored, assists and total offense.

Senior Dzindzi Asamoah-Wade registered 18 goals and nine assists and ranks nationally with 45 points while fellow senior Frances Tapia posted 11 goals and five assists in 15 games. Newcomers were vital in the historic season for the Beavers as junior Paola Ramos recorded six goals and nine assists and freshman Taylor Jo Gillen added five goals and three assists, mainly off of the bench.

The City College defense became known to frustrate and limit its opponent's shots on goal as the Beavers posted 11 shutouts, led by goalkeeper Nicole Carroll, junior sweeper Heather Ruger, junior defender Lindsay De La Rosa and senior Angelica Lopez.
