Pioneers top Bluffton, gain HCAC's No. 2 seed

BLUFFTON, Ohio - Transylvania's Alyssa Kruse scored a pair of goals Saturday, propelling the Pioneers to a 3-1 win over Bluffton in their regular-season finale.

The Pioneers (11-5-1, 7-2 HCAC) established a 2-0 lead in the early going, then added a clinching score in the second half to knock off the Beaveers (3-12-1-6-1 HCAC). Transy clinched second place in the conference race and will host an HCAC semifinal game on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Hall Field. Transy will play the No. 3 seed, Hanover. Top seed Earlham will host No. 4 Manchester.

Kruse's eight goal just three minutes into the contest gave Transy a 1-0 lead, but Bluffton tied the contest just six minutes later. Natosha Boden scored her sixth goal of the season at the 15:30 mark, taking the assist from Kruse. That made the score 2-1 at intermission.

Kruse's second goal came in the final minute off an assist by Ashley Cobane.

Transy held a 10-7 edge in shots with Kruse leading with five and Boden with three. Jerrica Scovel had five saves and got the win in goal.

The Pioneers added seven corners to four for Bluffton.
