Spartan Women Fall to No. 5 Washington-St. Louis in 2012 Home Finale

CLEVELAND – The Case Western Reserve University women's soccer team fell by a score of 3-0 to University Athletic Association foe and No. 5 nationally-ranked Washington University- St. Louis on a cold and rainy Sunday at Case Field.

The Spartans fall to 7-6-4 overall and 1-4-1 in the UAA heading into their final match at the University of Rochester (N.Y.) next Saturday, November 3 at 5:00 p.m. With the victory, the Bears improve to 15-1-1 overall and 5-0-1 in the UAA.

Washington started its attack early in the match with shots by Jessica Johnson in the fifth minute and Emily Gosche in the 10th minute, but both scoring attempts were saved by Spartan freshman goalkeeper Megan Romelfanger (Fort Wayne, Ind./Homestead).

Keeping the offensive pressure on, the Bears struck with a pair of quick scores just 39 seconds apart as Anna Zambricki scored at the 29:40 and 30:29 marks with a pair of unassisted goals.

Not done yet, Zambricki tacked on her third goal in the 85th minute to complete her "hat trick." She was assisted on the score by a Kate Doyle corner kick.

For the match, the Bears outshot the Spartans, 20-8, and won the corner kick battle, 11-6.

Romelfanger tied a career-high with nine stops for Case, while Washington's Clara Jaques was credited with a quartet of saves in the victory.
