Ramos, Beavers, Shutout Lightning to Advance to CUNYAC Finals
STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – Paola Ramos registered two goals and two assists and senior Tabitha Azor added two goals and one assist as the City College of New York (14-4) shutout the Lightning of Lehman College, 7-0, on Thursday afternoon at the College of Staten Island Soccer Complex to advance to the City University of New York Athletic Conference / Applebee's Championship.
The first post-Hurricane Sandy game marked the 12th shutout for the Beavers as Ramos and senior Frances Tapia combined for two goals and four assists.
Senior Dzindzi Asamoah-Wade, junior Jessica Salas and freshman Taylor Jo Gillen added one goal apiece in the route of the Lightning. Grace Benavides added an assist as the Beavers took a quick 1-0 lead after seven minutes of play on Azor's first of two goals.
City College added two more goals to go into halftime up 3-0. CCNY's potent offense continued as the Beavers came out strong in the second half and added four goals to take a 7-0 lead. The Beavers defense was stingy as they held Lehman to one shot.
CCNY faces the winner of the #1/#4 matchup between the College of Staten Island and John Jay College on Saturday, Nov. 3 at 5 PM at Randall's Island Field 10.
