Beavers Punch Ticket to NCAA Tournament with 1-0 Victory over CSI

NEW YORK, N.Y. – In the most important game of the season for the Beavers, the 2012 City College of New York women's soccer team (15-4) put on a defensive show as goalkeeper Nicole Carroll and the CCNY defense held the College of Staten Island, the top-ranked team in the conference, scoreless in a 1-0 victory in the City University of New York Athletic Conference / Applebee's Championships on Saturday evening at Randall's Island Field 10.

Dzindzi Asamoah-Wade recorded her 20th goal of the season en route to winning MVP and clinching the CUNYAC title for the Beavers. The senior paces a Beavers team that has now won 15 games under fourth-year head coach Don Manfria and marked the first CUNYAC title for CCNY since 2009.

Seniors Frances Tapia, Tabitha Azor and Angelica Lopez have the distinction of becoming the only three girls in City College history to win conference titles in their freshmen and senior years, respectively. This season also marked the first time in conference history that the CUNYAC playoffs winner automatically earned a ticket into the NCAA Tournament.
