Deena Levey Leads Four Selected to All-UAA Team
PITTSFORD, N.Y. – Case Western Reserve University senior midfielder and tri-captain Deena Levey (Columbus, Ohio/Bexley) was one of four Spartans named to the 2012 All-University Athletic Association Women's Soccer Team. Now a four-time All-UAA honoree, Levey earns first-team status for the first time in her career.
Levey earned honorable-mention accolades during her freshman and junior seasons, while garnering second-team honors as a sophomore. Case has now landed at least one player on the All-Association First Team in two-straight seasons. Prior the 2011, CWRU women's soccer hadn't had a first-team All-UAA pick since Judy Gelber in 2003.
Along with Deena Levey, Case had a pair of second-team honorees in junior forward Leah Levey (Columbus, Ohio/Bexley) and senior defender Maeve Goede (Westlake, Ohio/Westlake) along with an honorable mention pick in sophomore forward Jessie Sabers (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Jerome).
Deena Levey finished tied for second on the team with eight points on two goals and a team-best four assists. A four-year starter, she appeared in 72 career matches and racked up 28 points on seven goals and 14 assists. She ranks tied for fifth in program history in matches and seventh in assists.
Leah Levey, an honorable mention pick as a freshman and first-team selection last season, tied her older sister for second on the team with eight points on three goals and two helpers. In 56 career matches, Leah Levey has 29 points on 11 goals and seven assists.
Goede, a four-year starter, picks up her first All-Association nod. She ranks tied for sixth in program history with 69 starts and tied for fifth with 72 matches played. In 2011, she was a key cog in a backline that recorded a program-record 11 shutouts. Statistically, she accumulated eight points via a trio of scores and two helpers.
Sabers garners her first All-UAA award after leading the team with seven goals, 16 points and three game-winners. In 35 career matches played, the second-year Spartan has 24 points via nine goals and six assists.
The Spartans, nationally-ranked early in the season, concluded the 2012 campaign with an 8-6-4 record and 2-4-1 mark during the ultra-competitive conference season.
