WASHINGTON, D.C. – Gallaudet University women's soccer used a pair of two-goal performances by senior midfielder Maddie Morgan (Hockessin, Del.) and sophomore midfielder Katie Benz (Stafford, Va.) to dominate non-conference foe Patrick Henry College, 5-0, on Wednesday night. A crowd of 400 spirited fans was on hand at the home opener at Hotchkiss Field to witness the Bison pick up their first win of the season.

Gallaudet (1-3) controlled the pace and dominated time of possession in the first half but could not find the back of the net early on. It was not until the 35th minute when it first got on the board. Benz got the scoring started on an unassisted goal from just over 10 yards out and the Bison never looked back. Just over three minutes later, freshman forward Louisenie Philostin (Orlando, Fla.) found a crease in the defense and was headed toward a scoring opportunity until she was tripped inside the goalie box earning the Bison a penalty kick. Morgan took the penalty kick and made the most of it, shooting the ball past Sentinel goalkeeper Kim Kozak (18 saves) and into the back of the net to give Gallaudet a 2-0 lead. The scoring onslaught continued in the 42nd minute when Morgan scored her second of the night, an unassisted goal, from inside the goalie box. The Bison took a 3-0 advantage into halftime. Benz capped off her two-goal performance in the 85th minute when she slipped passed the defense and turned a beautiful pass from Morgan into Gallaudet's fifth goal.

Gallaudet continued to overwhelm Patrick Henry (0-1) in the second half. Freshman midfielder Sofia Lindevall (Stockholm, Sweden) scored her second goal of the season in the 52nd minute when she stole the ball deep in the Sentinel's territory and quickly put it a passed a sprawling Kozak for the Bison's fourth goal.
