Early goal enough for Notre Dame (Md.) to beat Gallaudet
BALTIMORE – Gallaudet University surrendered an early goal to begin Sunday's women's soccer game against non-conference foe College of Notre Dame (Md.), the lone tally stood as the Bison lost 1-0 at Alumnae Field.
The game's only goal was scored by freshman forward Lauren Santi on a pass from sophomore defender Gabrielle Rehmeyer. From just outside the goalie box, Santi took the pass from Rehmeyer and turned it into a 1-0 advantage as the ball deflected off the left goal post and ricocheted into the back of the net.
Neither team was able to capitalize on their remaining opportunities, as both goalkeepers were stout in net. Senior Kara Gulvas (Crown Point, Ind.) finished the day with 12 saves for the Bison while Notre Dame (3-0) sophomore goalkeeper Heather Lancellotti stopped seven. Gallaudet (0-3) was outshot by the Gators, 22 to 10.
Senior midfielder Maddie Morgan (Hockessin, Del.) led Gallaudet with three shots on goal, four total shots in the game.
The Bison will look to pick up their first win of the season in their home opener on Wednesday, Sept. 12, when they host Patrick Henry College at 7:30 p.m. at Hotchkiss Field.
