Bison win second in a row with 1-0 shutout over Cazenovia
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Gallaudet University played stellar defense Sunday in a 1-0 shutout victory against Cazenovia College in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) game at home. The Bison (4-11, 3-7) scored the game's lone goal 30 minutes in and then relied on their defense to shutdown the Wildcats (8-7-1, 4-6 NEAC) on a picturesque afternoon in the nation's capital.
Gallaudet has won two games in a row for the first time since last season and are now 3-4 this year at home. The shutout is the first for the Bison since a 5-0 win on Sept. 12 against Patrick Henry College.
Senior goalie Kara Gulvas (Crown Point, Ind.) was phenomenal in net as she turned away 12 shots as the Wildcats outshot the Bison 25-11. Gulvas leads all NCAA Division III in saves made with 179.
Gulvas was not alone as her line of defense included seniors Connor Crawford (Palatka, Fla.), Shea Ramus (Fremont, Calif.), junior Katie Giles (Gaithersburg, Md.), sophomores Elena Ciccarelli (Whitesboro, N.Y.) and Morgann Smith (Salt Lake City, Utah).
Cazenovia was on attack for the majority of the game, especially in the second half where it outshot the Bison, 11-2. Wildcat forward Emily Graham had a nice scoring opportunity in the 60th minute, but her shot got deflected by the foot of a sliding Gulvas in front of the net.
