Methodist Women's Soccer Falls to Wittenberg, 1-0
BALTIMORE, Md. – Wittenberg's Michelle Brunswick scored in the 56th minute to lift the Tigers to a 1-0 victory over the Methodist women's soccer team on Saturday afternoon at Homewood Field.
Following a scoreless first half, Brunswick fired a shot to the upper-90, beating Methodist (0-1) goalkeeper Sarah Hayden to her left for the game's only score.
The Monarchs nearly got on the board in the first half as Victoria Martins' shot in the 16th minute grazed the Wittenberg goal. After matching the Tigers (1-0) with six shots (all on goal) in the first half, Methodist mustered two shots in the final 45 minutes while its opponent had nine.
Playing in relief of starting keeper Taylor Ross, the Monarchs' Hayden (0-1) made four saves in 37:26 and took the loss. Ross had four saves in just over 52 minutes in goal. Maggie Grieser (1-0) earned the victory for Wittenberg, coming off the bench to make two saves.
Methodist will return to the action on Sunday against host John Hopkins. Kickoff is scheduled for 11:00 am at Homewood Field.
