POTSDAM, N.Y. – Senior Kelly Knight (Rochester/Greece Olympia) scored with three minutes, 31 seconds left in the second overtime period to lift nationally 18th-ranked Cortland past host Clarkson University, 1-0, in a non-league women's soccer matchup. The Red Dragons improved to 1-1 with the victory, while the Golden Knights dropped to 1-1.

Knight gained control of the ball deep in Clarkson territory in the 107th minute and passed the ball to sophomore Abby Williams (Pittsford/Pittsford Mendon) on the right side. As the defense converged toward Williams, she sent a pass back to Knight, who ripped a 15-yard shot into the net for the sudden-victory game-winning goal.

Freshman Rachel Axt (Basking Ridge, NJ/Ridge) made one save for the shutout. Her lone stop came on a shot 14 minutes into the first half. Clarkson goalie Kim Kenline made six saves. Cortland outshot the Golden Knights, 12-3, including a 5-1 margin after regulation.

The best scoring chance for either team in regulation came in the 54th minute when Cortland sophomore Jessica McFadden (Morganville, NJ/Marlboro) hit the post. McFadden also had a shot saved by Kenline in the seventh minute, as well as a rebound attempt sail wide.

Cortland returns to action next Sunday, Sept. 8, when it hosts nationally second-ranked Emory University of Georgia at 11 a.m.
