Bridgewater Defeats University of Dallas, 4-3
BRIDGEWATER, Va. - Bridgewater College scored twice in the first 14 minutes Sunday and never looked back in a 4-2 non-conference women's soccer victory over the University of Dallas.
After having Saturday's match against Greensboro declared a no-contest, the Eagles were eager to officially get the season underway.
Just eight minutes in, Melanie Waters headed a rebound off the crossbar into the open net, giving Bridgewater a quick 1-0 lead.
The Eagles added their second goal five minutes later when freshman Kelly Patterson scored on a breakaway, booting a shot from just outside of the box past the Dallas keeper for a 2-0 Eagles lead.
The Crusaders fought back to trim the deficit to 2-1 when Nicole Johnson scored from 20 yards out with the assist going to Rebecca Brunter.
Bridgewater padded its lead when Ashley Crossman booted a shot just inside the far post off a corner kick from Michelle Viegas for a 3-1 Eagles lead.
Once again Dallas answered, this time with a Michelle Carpenter goal late in the first half to cut BC's lead to 3-2 at the break.
The Eagles regained their two-goal lead in the 58th minute when Nikole Blackwell hammered a direct free kick past the Dallas keeper, giving the Eagles a 4-2 lead.
Bridgewater held a commanding 20-5 edge in shots with an 11-4 advantage in shots on goal. The Eagles also had nine corners kicks compared to zero for the Crusaders.
The Eagles are back in action Wednesday when they travel to Buena Vista, Va., to play Southern Virginia University in non-conference action.
