Women's Soccer Remains Unbeaten
UW-W used two goals in each half to top Edgewood College 4-2 Friday night at Fiskum Field in Whitewater. The Warhawks improve to 2-0-1 and the Eagles fall to 0-2-0.
Kaitlyn Fritsch (Monona/Monona Grove) found Jenna Woodson (Menomonee Falls/Menomonee Falls) in the sixth minute for a nifty goal to give the Warhawks a 1-0 advantage. Less than five minutes later the Eagles retaliated with a goal to tie the game.
Each goal seemed to come faster and faster, and just like that, two minutes later, the Warhawks had a 2-1 lead. Natalie Lechner (Waukesha/Catholic Memorial) scored her third goal of the season off of a pass from Woodson about 10 yards in front of the goal.
The Eagles remained persistent and netted another goal just before the half to tie the game.
Brianna Ried played a part in the two second half goals for the Warhawks, scoring one and assisting the other. Reid notched the game winning goal in the 58th minute on a pass from Carina Krausert (Waukesha/Catholic Memorial), and assisted on the insurance goal scored by Sarah Sedlar (Racine/Racine Case) at the 67 minute mark.
Emily Haeger (Rolling Meadows, IL/Rolling Meadows) came in to replace Jordan Myers (Aurora, IL/Waubonsie Valley) in the goal for UW-Whitewater in the second half and earned the win. Each goalkeeper made one save.
The Warhawks were more aggressive in the game outshooting the Eagles 19-6 and earning two offsides calls to Edgewood's zero.
The College of St. Catherine will visit UW-Whitewater on Sunday, September 8 for a match beginning at 3 pm.
