Morrisville State women make it two straight, top Wells 2-1
AURORA, N.Y. – The Morrisville State College women's soccer team posted their second straight victory Saturday afternoon, topping host Wells College 2-1 in Aurora in North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) action.
Morrisville State improves to 2-2 overall, 1-0 in conference action. Wells has yet to notch a win, falling to 0-3 overall, 0-1 in NEAC play.
Morrisville State senior defender Jordan Nadeau (Cobleskill, N.Y.) broke the scoring silence in the 56th minute, notching an unassisted tally to give the Mustangs the 1-0 advantage.
Nearly 12 minutes later, Wells Heather Hiltbrand evened the score at one, sneaking the ball past Morrisville State keeper Angela Marriott (Peekskill, N.Y.) in the 68th minute.
In the 79th minute, a breakaway opportunity found the Mustangs with a perfect opening downfield, and Courtney Purcell (Fabius, N.Y.) fed a beautiful through ball to forward Bailey Rutan (Cincinnatus, N.Y.) who fired it into the upper corner of the net.
Wells had a chance to even the mark for the second time, but Marriott made a crucial save in the 88th minute to secure the win.
Marriott made four stops on the day for the Mustangs.
Morrisville State returns to the field Saturday, Sept. 14, hosting College of St. Elizabeth at Noon on Lemery Field on the Mustang campus.
