Cloepfil scores three as Macalester shuts out Yellowjackets

The Yellowjacket women's soccer team was on the road for the first time on Monday evening, but they found their hosts, Macalester College, anything but accommodating or gracious. The Scots scored early and didn't look back on their way to a 4-0 win over the Yellowjackets in St. Paul, Minn.

It was the Georgia Cloepfil show for the on Monday, as the senior forward scored three times to lead the Scots to the victory.

Cloepfil got her first goal of the match just 22 seconds in, her second goal of the season, to make it 1-0. Lydia Chodosh made it a 2-0 score in the ninth minute, scoring on a rebound after Yellowjacket goalkeeper Alexandra Paige (Anaheim, Calif./Loara) made a save on a header. Cloepfil added her second goal of the match on a breakaway in the 33rd minute, and Macalester went into halftime with a 3-0 lead.

Macalester outshot the Yellowjackets 13-1 in the first half.

Cloepfil picked up the hat trick and closed out the scoring at 76:41, scoring from about eight yards out on a deflection to make the final score 4-0.

In addition to her three goals, Cloepfil attempted eight shots and had five shots on goal, both highs for the match. Chelsea Cossin (Hermantown, Minn./Hermantown) had the only shot of the match for the Yellowjackets.

Paige finished the game with eight saves on 12 shots, falling to 0-2-0 on the season. At the other end of the field, Saskia Ilcisin picked up the win for the Scots.

The Yellowjackets (1-3-0, 0-0-0 WIAC) have a quick turnaround, as they return to the pitch on Tuesday when they will play at North Central College in Minneapolis, Minn. Game time is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
