Trinity Women's Soccer Dominates On The Road At Manhattanville
Hartford, Conn. – First-year forward Rachel Zanko (Grand Rapids, Mich.) led an offensive onslaught with two goals to lead the visiting Trinity College Bantams to a 6-1 victory over the Manhattanville College Valiants women's soccer action this evening on GoValiants.com Field. Trinity improves to 2-0, winning its road opener and extending its winning streak against Manhattanville to seven games (6-0-1) and its overall mark against the Valiants to 18-1-1. Manhattanville falls to 2-3 with its second-straight setback.
Trinity sophomore forward Abbey Lake (Westport, Conn.) opened the scoring 26:43 into the contest, dribbling by the Valiant defense for an unassisted goal. After a game-tying score by Manhattanville sophomore forward Rebecca Breve (Tegucigalpa, Honduras) less than five minutes later, Lake again took the ball past the Valiant defense before feeding junior forward Karyn Barrett (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) for the game-winner from six yards away in the 34th minute.
Lake had either scored or assisted on Trinity's first four goals of the season, but Zanko broke the streak with her first goal of the game on a rebound and Trinity led, 2-1, just after the break. The Bantams dominated throughout the second half, outshooting Manhattanville, 11-0, and scoring all four goals after intermission. Sophomore forward Alexa Menard (Wallingford, Conn.), first-year midfielder Kendra Lena (Madison, Conn.), who scored her first career goal from Menard, and Zanko added second-half tallies, while sophomore Monica DiFiori (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) needed to make one save over 76:09 to earn the win in the Trinity goal. Freshman Dolores Diemicke (North Massapequa, N.Y.) and sophomore Grace Kraemer (Massapequa, N.Y.) made three saves apiece for the Valiants, as the pair fought against a 30-3 shot deficit for the game.
