Seahawk Women's Soccer Nipped 2-1 by Richard Stockton

Galloway, N.J. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland women's soccer team is now 0-2-2 against programs from the New Jersey Athletic Conference as the Seahawks suffered a 2-1 overtime setback at the hands of host Richard Stockton College Wednesday afternoon.

First-year midfielder Adrianna Boucher (Hamilton, N.J.) finally broke the deadlock at 97:21 asBoucher finished off consecutive passes from forwards Jacque Becker (Hamilton, N.J./Steinert) and Laina Matus (Egg Harbor Township, N.J.).

Richard Stockton (4-2), who is ranked 10th in the South Atlantic region, posted a 17-10 margin in shots plus a 2-0 edge in corner kicks in securing its fourth straight win. The Seahawks (1-2-2) have now played four NJAC schools, taking three of them to extra periods.

Senior captain Jo Rambo (Hollywood, Md./Leonardtown) converted on a penalty kick at 10:03 to give St. Mary's the early 1-0 lead. The Seahawks carried that one-goal advantage into halftime despite Richard Stockton owning a 10-4 shot margin in the first 45 minutes.

The Ospreys evened the score at 51:52 as senior Leah Braidi (Vineland, N.J.) headed in a pass from junior defender Rachel Sanford (South Brunswick, N.J.). Shots were even in the second stanza with five apiece while Stockton earned two corner kicks.

Braidi fired a shot on goal in the 96th minute but first-year goalkeeper Sara Eaton (Portland, Ore./Oregon Episcopal) denied the attempt, keeping the game tied. Sophomore forward Jess Konecke (Gaithersburg, Md./Quince Orchard) had the best opportunity for the Seahawks in OT, however, senior Sarah Hinkle (Mullica Hill, N.J.) grabbed it to keep the game going on.

Eaton collected seven stops for the Seahawks, including five in the first half, while Hinklefinished with five in the Ospreys' third overtime victory.

The Seahawks will look turn around their two-game skid this Saturday, September 14th when St. Mary's travels to Fayetteville, North Carolina to take on Methodist University in non-conference action at noon.
