Late Game Heroics Lift Greensboro College Women's Soccer Past Guilford College 1-0

More news about: Greensboro women's team

Mary Randolph found the back of the net from 35 yards out with 4:37 remaining to lift the Greensboro College women's soccer team to a 1-0 win over cross-town rival Guilford on Thursday.  Randolph's score gave The Pride their first win, moving to 1-2-0 on the young season.

Greensboro dominated the stat sheet, outshooting the Quakers 24-7 overall and 9-3 on goal.  The Pride also held a 7-0 edge in corner kicks.

The game went into the half tied at 0-0 despite Greensboro leading the shot category by a 6-1 margin.  The Pride kicked things into high gear in the second half, applying the pressure with 18 shots and six corner kicks.

While Greensboro controlled the tempo and pace of play, it took until the 86th minute and Randolph's game winning blast to provide The Pride with their first victory of the year.

The game was delayed for 30 minutes at one point because of lightening, but the weather passed, allowing for the late game heroics.

Tiffany Walters led Greensboro with six shots on the night.  Lauren Greeson and Melanie Raton each contributed five apiece.  Jessica Thatcher earned the win in goal, facing seven shots with three saves.

The Pride will hit the road again on Saturday, taking on Salem at 2 p.m.
