Chelsea Stahl Scores Winner over Marywood

Freshman Chelsea Stahl (Brockport, NY/Brockport) scored off a rebound late in the first half to lead The College at Brockport Women's Soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Marywood University Saturday afternoon in a key non-conference regional matchup for the Golden Eagles in Scranton, Pennsylvania.

With less than seven minutes to play in the first half and Brockport (4-1) on the offensive rush, senior Annie Terilli (Brockport, NY/Brockport) took a hard shot that was saved by the Marywood (0-3-1) keeper and Stahl moved in to pick up the loose ball and score giving the Golden Eagles the 1-0 lead.

In the second half Brockport continued the offensive pressure but was unable to add to its lead.

"This was a nice win for us against a physical team that will prepare us for the upcoming SUNYAC games," said head coach Joan Schockow. "I thought we could have scored more but our timing was a bit off and we were called offsides several times."

The Golden Eagles were whistled for offsides 11 times in the game and held a shots advantage of 19-9.

Defensively for the Golden Eagles, Laura Thompson (Victor, NY/Victor) made two saves in goal to record her second shutout of the season.

"We did what we needed to do defensively to win," said Schockow. "This is a key regional win as Marywood was picked to win its conference in the preseason poll."

The Pacers were tabbed as the top team in the preseason poll for the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) after finishing the regular season in 2012 with an undefeated mark in conference play and earning an Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) postseason berth.
