BC Women Cruise To Fifth Straight With 6-0 Win Over Poly

More news about: Brooklyn women's team

Brooklyn, NY---The Brooklyn College Women's Soccer Team, in only their second year of existence, is off to a remarkable 5-0 start to their season after defeating NYU-Poly 6-0 on Monday evening at Brooklyn College Field. Poly falls to 2-3 on the year.

Even more impressive for the Bulldogs has been the dominance that they've shown in their five wins, outscoring opponents by a total of 25-0, while getting outstanding play from each of their positions throughout.

This was the case in tonight's game as BC controlled the first half of play, doing all of their scoring, as they entered the half with a 6-0 lead.

Captain Shani Abrahams got things started for the home Bulldogs as she weaved through the Blue Jay defense, sending a shot to the left of the keeper for an unassisted goal just 3:34 into the contest.

At the 7:04 mark it was freshman Jordan Kerwin, the team's leading goal scorer, who took a Stefany Ibarra pass and found the net for her seventh score of the season.

Poly's defense settled a little after the early scores and held Brooklyn scoreless over the next 22:43, however BC's Bergelie Louis put her squad up 3-0 off a Sayla Flores feed down the middle of the field.

That goal got the Bulldogs going once again as Abrahams converted on her second breakaway of the game just 40 seconds later to give the hosts a 4-0 lead.

Only two minutes later, Kerwin got her own free run and knocked in her team-high eighth goal of the season and second on the evening.

Finishing the Brooklyn scoring was Flores who converted on a pass from Kerwin, giving her team the lofty 6-0 advantage.

The second half of play saw a hard-fought 45 minutes with lots of physical play but not many scoring opportunities. Poly showed some better play as they did manage to get a couple of shots on goal and hold off the BC attack, however they couldn't manage to convert on any of their chances.

Second-year Head Coach Patrick Horne said of his undefeated squad, "I was pleased to see that we played hard and were able to convert on many of our first half opportunities. We are improving with each game and look forward to seeing how good we can be as we enter conference play."

Coach Horne will not have to wait long for that to happen as the BC women travel to York on Wednesday for their first taste of league play, before heading to Lehman on Saturday for another CUNYAC tilt.
