Trinity Women's Soccer Stays Hot With League Win At Bates

Lewiston, Maine - First-year midfielder Kendra Lena (Madison, Conn.) scored the game-winning goal in the 66th minute to lead the visiting Trinity College Bantams to a 2-1 victory over the Bates College Bobcats in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) women's soccer action this afternoon on Russell Street Field. Trinity, ranked No. 5 in New England, improves to 6-0 and maintains sole possession of first place in the league at 4-0 with its seventh consecutive win. Bates drops to 2-4 overall and 1-3-1 in the NESCAC. Trinity gets right back on the field tomorrow with a 12:30 p.m. game at league rival Tufts.

After Bates sophomore Leah Humes (Beaconsfield, Ontario) scored an equalizing goal in the 58th minute Lena blasted a hard shot from outside the box into the upper left corner of the net. Bantam junior forward Karyn Barrett (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) scored the game's first tally at the 17:34 mark as junior tri-captain midfielder Elisa Dolan (Bethesda, Md.) played a ball the ball to her in front of the goal, Barrett slotted it past Bates senior goalie Anabel Schmelz (Monmouth Beach, N.J.). The Bantams nearly added a third goal in the 84th minute when an Andi Nicholson (Grafton, Mass.) shot from 10 yards away off a cross just missed the top right corner. Schmelz made four saves while Trinity sophomore Monica DiFiori (Manhattan Beach, Fla.) stopped three shots.
