Thomas More Posts Fourth Straight Shutout With a 6-0 Win Over Chatham
(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) - The Thomas More College women's soccer team defeated Chatham University, 6-0, today (Saturday, October 12, 2013) in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) match at The Bank of Kentucky Field in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.
With the win, the Saints improve to 9-1-2 overall and 3-0 in the PAC. With the loss, the Cougars fall to 1-10 overall and 0-3 in the PAC.
The shutout was the Saints' fourth straight and 10th overall this season.
Thomas More took an early 1-0 lead when sophomore forward Olivia Huber (Woodlawn, Ky./Newport Central Catholic) scored off an assist from junior midfielder Sam Work (Cincinnati, Ohio/Colerain) at the 7:41 mark. Huber increased the lead to 2-0 at the 15:01 mark when she found the back of the net off another Work assist. The Saints extended the lead to 3-0 at the 18:15 mark when freshman midfielder Taylor Robinson (Alexandria, Ky./Campbell County) scored off a cross from senior midfielder Kirstie Reilman (Cincinnati, Ohio/McAuley). Reilman found the back of the net at the 23:00 mark off an assist from Work to increase the lead to 4-0. Thomas More took a 5-0 halftime lead when freshman midfielder Madison Romard (Cincinnati, Ohio/McAuley) scored unassisted at the 28:07 mark.
The Saints closed out the scoring at the 88:41 mark when freshman forward Nicole Brown (Cincinnati, Ohio/Sycamore) scored off a Romard corner kick for the final score of 6-0.
Freshmen goalkeepers Megan Barton (Florence, Ky./Villa Madonna) and Sarah LaCombe (Loveland, Ohio/Loveland) split time in goal. Barton played the first 45 minutes and had one save and LaCombe played the final 45 minutes and didn't face a shot.
Thomas More out-shot the Cougars, 24-1, including 13-1 on-goal and won the battle of corner kicks, 18-1.
The Saints return to action on Tuesday (October 15) when they travel to Latrobe, Pennsylvania to play Saint Vincent College at 1 p.m.
