Dickerson's marker lifts Big Blue past Wellesley

WELLESLEY, Mass. -- Sophomore Jackie Dickerson scored in the 19th minute to provide the University of New England with all the offense it would need for a 1-0 triumph over Wellesley College in women's soccer action Sunday afternoon (Sep. 8).

First-year goalie Brielle Robinson needed to make three saves to preserve the shutout for UNE, which moves to 2-2 on the year. It was the first win for the Nor'easters in three tries against Wellesley, which falls to 1-3 overall.

Scoring chances were at a premium for both sides, with a combined six shots on goal for the entire contest. Dickerson converted UNE's first shot of the day from the left side after Wellesley misfired on its initial two attempts.

Wellesley did come close to tying the match in the 64th minute, but a shot by Emily Wilson rattled off the post.

Total shots ended with a 9-7 edge to Wellesley. The Blue also had the game's only corner kick in the 1st half.

The Nor'easters head to Husson University on Wednesday (5 p.m.), while Wellesley, which got two saves from Claire Cerda, hosts Lesley University the same day.
