Red Devils Blank Bearcats for Second Straight Shutout
(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson women's soccer team posted its second straight shutout to open the 2013 season. The Red Devils tallied four goals on Sunday to turn back Saint Vincent College, 4-0.
Seven players found their way into the scoring column as the Red Devils used a balanced attack on Sunday. Senior Rosalin Savoie (Wilton, Conn./Wilton) put Dickinson on the board in the 19th minute, scoring off an assist from classmate Sam Friday (Southborough, Mass./Algonquin Regional).
Junior Jess Swain (Wilmington, Del./Wilmington Friends) turned on a cross from senior Olivia Licata (Upper Saddle River, N.J./Northern Highlands) with just under six minutes remaining in the first half.
Dickinson controlled play and held possession for the majority of the game. The Devils pressed offensively, recording 34 shots and forcing 11 corners while allowing just two. Junior Kerri Bergin (Allendale, N.J./Northern Highlands) capitalized on one of those corners with the first collegiate goal of her career. She finished a beautifully played ball from Cate Maugle (Glenmoore, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) to stretch the lead to, 3-0, in the 63rd minute.
Sophomore Nicole Fronsdahl (Groton, Mass./Groton) found space and ripped a long shot into the back of the net in the 74th minute to close out the scoring for the Devils.
The Red Devil defense was solid again, holding the Bearcats to just two shots and two corners. First-year Jackie Geisler (Londonderry, N.H./Londonderry) turned in another strong performance in her second collegiate start.
Sophomore Charlotte Armour (New Haven, Conn./Choate Rosemary Hall) and first-year Deanna Ballard (Smithtown, N.Y./Monticello, Va.) split the shutout in goal as the defense forced both Bearcat shots, wide of the net.
The Red Devils improve to 2-0 on the season while Saint Vincent slips to 1-1. Dickinson goes on the road on Wednesday, traveling to Stevenson University for a 7:00 pm start.
