Kronick Breaks Goals Record, No. 6 JHU Rolls Past Bryn Mawr 9-1

More news about: Johns Hopkins women's team

BALTIMORE, MD – Like the many that have come before, junior Hannah Kronick's 56th career goal proved why she's been so successful as a finisher for Hopkins. After playing a one-touch pass to Christina Convey on the wing, Kronick received her teammate's cross in the box and powered a header past the Bryn Mawr keeper. The will and desire to score Kronick has played with over the past three seasons was evident again today, as the Westfield, NJ native became the all-time leading scorer in program history.

"Coming to Hopkins for college soccer this is never what I expected to happen," said Kronick. "I always told myself that I wanted to leave a mark on this program, and I hope I'm doing that. It's also just so cool that I'm able to represent Hopkins the way that I am. It makes me very proud to play for such a great school."

Seven other Blue Jays scored in the 9-1 victory over Bryn Mawr, the most goals in a single game for Hopkins since September 15, 2007. Kronick's goal in the 15th minute got things started for the Jays, and freshman Vania Ludman led Hopkins with her first multi-goal performance of her career, notching scores in the 48th and 74th minutes. Kelly Baker, Alexa Rangecroft, Meg Van de loo, Jennie Hall, Kylie Fuller and Kaitlin Brooks all added goals for the Blue Jays, as the team improved to 12-1-1 on the season and 5-0-1 in the Centennial Conference.

The offense was firing on all cylinders for Hopkins, as Baker gave Hopkins a 2-0 lead after dribbling past several defenders and scored on an empty net in the 20th minute. Midfielder Alexa Rangecroft scored her second goal on the season off an indirect kick in the box in the 30th minute. Junior Sydney Teng was quick to set up the freshman in the center of the box, and she put a shot over the goalie's head to put JHU up 3-0. Teng added her second assist of the day on a goal from freshman Meg Van de Loo in the 40th minute. Van de Loo collected the through ball on the right wing and buried a shot to score her eighth goal of the season and fifth in three games.

Hopkins did not miss a beat in the second half, as freshman Vania Ludman took a through ball from Pamela Vranis and scored in the 48th minute. Three minutes later, senior Jennie Hall took a cross from Allie Baker and one timed a shot from the left side of the box to notch her first goal of the season. Fellow senior Kylie Fuller had perhaps the most impressive goal of the day in the 56th minute. The Bradford Woods, PA native ripped a shot from outside the 18, which fit perfectly into the top right corner to notch her first goal of the season. Ludman (72') and Kaitlin Brooks (84') rounded out the scoring for the Blue Jays in the second half.

On October 16, Kronick tied Erica Suter's ('12) mark of 55 career goals in the team's victory over Dickinson. Today she surpassed her former teammate, but was quick to recognize the influence Suter had on her game.

"Playing with [Suter] freshman year was a really cool experience for me, because I got to see the way she did everything," Kronick explained. "I never would have thought I would be following in her footsteps so quickly, but I learned so much from the way she played and the way she composed herself on the field. I think I've tried to incorporate a lot of that into my game, and I think that's helped me be successful this year."

Seniors Christina Convey, Pamela Vranis, Jennie Hall, Kylie Fuller, Kelly Baker, Amanda Yaccarino, and Kelly Leddy were all honored before the game for senior day. The Blue Jays will face Ursinus this Monday, October 21 in a makeup game after the original match was cancelled.
