Hamilton whitewashes SUNY Canton 4-0
The Hamilton College women's soccer team posted its second 4-0 win in a week, rolling to a shutout of host SUNY Canton in non-league play Sunday. The Continentals, who evened their record at 5-5-3, close out the regular season Tuesday at NESCAC opponent Williams; with a win, they'll secure a spot in the NESCAC playoffs.
Morgan Fletcher '17 scored a pair of goals for Hamilton, who finished with a season-best 17 shots on goal.
Halle Becker '15 opened the scoring with her third goal of the season midway through the opening half. She lofted a corner kick (the Continentals had a 5-2 advantage) into the top left corner of the goal for her second game-winner of the season.
Fletcher added a pair of goals 6:10 apart in the second half, giving her three scores in her last two games. She took a pass from Emma Teach '16 in the 62nd minute, carried it in and beat Kangaroo goalkeeper Brittany Rotach with a low left shot. Teach's assist was her first career point. Just over six minutes later she corralled a loose ball and scored to the same spot for her first career multi-goal game.
Sarah Lasker '14 finished the scoring, burying a penalty shot with 2:18 left in regulation for her first collegiate goal.
Liza Gergenti '14 made four saves in goal to record her fourth shutout of the season and the 18th of her career.
Sunday's game was the first meeting between Canton (7-9-2) and Hamilton. The Continentals have played 18 first-time opponents in the past 11 years, going 12-1-5 of those games.
