Briana Kubik of Western New England is the CCC Defensive Player of the Week
SPRINGFIELD, Mass.--For the first time in her career, Western New England University goalkeeper Briana Kubik has been chosen the Commonwealth Coast Conference Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week, for the period ending Sunday.
The sophomore from Blandford who graduated from Westfield High School posted a stingy 0.90 goals-against average and made 19 total saves on the week as the Golden Bears went 1-0-1 in conference play. Kubik stopped seven shots as WNE came away with the 2-1 victory over Salve Regina University on Tuesday. Kubik then made a season-high 12 saves, including two in overtime to preserve the 1-1 tie against Curry College on the road Saturday.
The elementary education major's season-to-date GAA now ranks fourth among CCC leaders at 1.11.
This marks the second time in 2013 that a Golden Bear has earned CCC Defensive Player of the Week as Danielle Savoie received the nod on Oct. 7. Kubik was a rookie of the week selection on Sep. 12, 2012.
