WPI’s McMillan Nets CoSIDA Academic All-District I Laurels

Worcester, MA — Senior back Natalie McMillan (Acton, MA) has been named a Capital One CoSIDA Academic All-District I honoree as voted upon by the region's Sports Information Directors.

McMillan touts a 3.52 GPA in chemical engineering and moves on to the national ballot for Academic All-America consideration. This spring, McMillan went to Namibia, Africa for her IQP project which improved the sustainability of the Gobabeb Training and Research Center in a remote desert environment. She also studied US foreign aid to Zimbabwe in the Cold War era for her sufficiency. Outside of the classroom, McMillan is a Phi Sigma Sigma sorority executive board member in addition to being a member of the Order of Omega, Society of Women Engineers, Crimson Key and Skull.

The Engineers co-captain has scored a career-high four goals and recorded one assist this season while anchoring a defense that helped the Crimson and Gray record a quartet of shutouts, including a 3-0 win over Mount Holyoke to help secure the program's first NEWMAC tournament appearance since 2010. She also netted the game-winner against Emerson in the first meeting between the teams as conference foes.

Over her four year career, McMillan has started in 59 of 67 games played, including a 2010 NEWMAC first round match at Wheaton, in addition to scoring six goals and logging a pair of helpers.

The sixth-seeded Engineers (10-6-2, 4-5-1) head to third-seeded Springfield (11-4-3, 6-1-3) tomorrow night for a 7pm NEWMAC Women's Soccer Championship first round matchup.
