Wheaton (Ill.) women's squad defeats Carthage 5-0 to win CCIW Tournament finale
Wheaton, Ill. – The Wheaton College women's soccer team earned a 5-0 victory against Carthage College (13-5-1) on Saturday night in the CCIW Women's Soccer Tournament Championship Match. Wheaton has won 10 of the 12 CCIW Women's Soccer Tournaments that have been contested. Wheaton (17-1-2) earns the CCIW's automatic bid to the upcoming NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Tournament.
Kristin Rauh extended Wheaton's lead to 4-0 she scored in the 49th minute. Rauh collected a deflection off of Alm to register the goal, with an assist from DeMoss. DeMoss netted her second goal of the night in the 54th minute when she capped of a strong counter attack for the Thunder. Bailey Wysocki collected the ball on a long pass and assisted to DeMoss at the top of the 18-yard box and DeMoss blasted it in to account for the 5-0 Thunder victory. Wheaton owned a 10-4 advantage in shots in the second half.
Wheaton goalkeeper Kelsey Graham made two saves in 70 minutes of action in the Thunder net. Mary Daghfal made one save in 20 minutes of work. Alm made seven saves and allowed five goals in the Lady Reds' net. Wheaton out-shot Carthage 23-7 in the match. The Thunder had six corner kicks in the match, Carthage was awarded four.
