Bulldog Women’s Soccer Collects Three All-SCIAC Honorees
It was announced on Tuesday afternoon by the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) that the University of Redlands women's soccer program garnered three players on the All-Conference teams for the 2013 season. Sophomore midfielder Savannah Laursen (Boise, ID) and sophomore defender Sam Keary (Mission Viejo, CA) both collected First-Team laurels for their fantastic efforts throughout the campaign, while Bulldog senior goalkeeper Sabrina Grandke-Bawab (Kirkland, WA) landed on the Second Team.
After receiving SCIAC Newcomer of the Year honors during her rookie campaign, Laursen garnered First-Team accolades for her phenomenal sophomore campaign. Leading the Bulldogs in every offensive category, she paced the Redlands attack all season long. With five goals, she ranked sixth in the conference in the category, while she tied for the conference lead in assists with five during league play. Moreover, she ranked fifth in the SCIAC in points with 15. During conference play, Laursen scored two game-winners, with the first coming against Whittier College on September 28, and the second coming against Chapman University in a 2-1 triumph over the Panthers on October 16.
With the award, it marks the inaugural All-Conference honor for Keary. The savvy defender served as one of the key members of the Bulldog backline that allowed the second-fewest goals as a team during SCIAC action. Integral in helping Redlands register a 0.94 goals-against-average, Keary helped the Maroon and Gray surrendered just 14 goals in the SCIAC. While playing in 11 matches and starting in eight, she consistently helped to shut down opposing teams' top attackers.
Grandke-Bawab closed out an excellent career at the U of R this season, receiving her first-ever All-Conference recognition for her efforts. While starting in every conference contest for Redlands, she allowed just seven goals over 729 minutes of action between the pipes, tying for the fewest goals allowed during conference play. Her goals-against average of 0.86 in the SCIAC ranked second overall, while her save percentage of .848 also ranked second-best in the conference. Moreover, she totaled 39 saves in her final conference campaign with the Maroon and Gray.
