WATERVILLE, Maine – Kelsey Russell, an All-Liberty League defender for Skidmore College, was named an assistant coach for the Colby College women's soccer team Wednesday.

Russell, who graduated from Skidmore in May, earned Liberty League Second Team honors in 2013 and also was named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-East Region Third Team. She was the Rutland Herald Invitational Tournament MVP in 2013.

"We are excited to have Kelsey join our women's soccer staff. She had an impressive playing career at Skidmore and comes highly recommended by the Skidmore head coach," Colby head coach Jen Holsten said. "I think she will do a great job relating to our athletes and meeting the demands of coaching within the NESCAC."

Russell, from Duanesburg, N.Y., was a volunteer assistant coach for the New York Elite FC in Clifton Park, N.Y.  She also has been a coach at the Rotterdam Soccer Summer Camp from 2009 to 2014 and worked one year at the Skidmore Women's Soccer Camp. Russell also has coached at the youth level for the Rotterdam Soccer Club and the Niskayuna Soccer Club.

The Colby women will open the season at Williams College on Saturday, Sept. 6, at 11 a.m.
