Hopkins Soccer Is Final Four Bound!

For the first time in program history, the 15th-ranked Johns Hopkins women's soccer team advances to the Final Four after a 1-0 win over ninth-ranked Thomas More on Sunday afternoon. Hopkins will travel to Kansas City, MO, for the Final Four, where it will take on sixth-ranked Williams on Dec. 5 at 8 pm at Swope Soccer Village.

In a nail-biter between two great teams, the difference maker came on an own goal, after a Thomas More player knocked the ball into her own goal in the first half.

Outside of the own goal, play was strong and steady for both teams, with each defense standing up to the task of halting possible scoring threats by the opposition.

For the Blue Jays, goalkeeper Clara Aranguren played extremely well in goal, turning back six Saints shots. The Blue Jays were outshot by the Saints, but the Hopkins defense stood tall all afternoon.

Hopkins (19-3-2) has now defeated Farmingdale State, SUNY Geneseo, seventh-ranked Carnegie Mellon and now ninth-ranked Thomas More this postseason.

Joining Hopkins in the Final Four will be fifth-ranked Williams, top-ranked Lynchburg and No. 25 Illinois Wesleyan. Both semifinal games will be played on Friday, Dec. 5, with the Lynchburg-Illinois Wesleyan match beginning at 6 pm, followed by the Hopkins-Williams match at 8 pm. The championship match is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 6, at 2:30 pm. All matches will be held at Swope Soccer Village.

Hopkins is 1-0 all-time against Williams, defeating them last season, 2-1, in overtime.
