O'Neill Named Head Coach of the Newly Added Bryn Athyn Women's Soccer Program

Bryn Athyn, Pa. – The Bryn Athyn College director of athletics Matthew Kennedy announced the hiring of Bill O’Neill as the new head women’s soccer coach.  The newly added program will start competition fall of 2016 in the North Eastern Athletic Conference.

Kennedy expressed,” We are excited to have Bill leading our new women's soccer program. His vision for recruiting right fit student-athletes captured the attention of the search committee." 

He was recently the assistant men’s soccer coach at Division II Holy Family for the past three years. He brings 30 years of playing and coaching experience to Bryn Athyn.

O’Neill said,” My family and I are excited about the incredible opportunity to coach at Bryn Athyn. My years of experience as a player, coach, trainer and director have prepared me well for this moment. I look forward to working and collaborating with Matthew Kennedy and the rest of the staff to help grow the athletic programs at Bryn Athyn College. 

He is a member of the Southeastern PA Soccer Hall of Fame after an illustrious playing career that included honors at George Washington HS and Rowan University. 

At George Washington HS, O'Neill won two Philadelphia Public League Titles in '85 and was captain of the '87 team. He was named City Player of the Year, 1st Team All Public and All Scholastic.  At Rowan, as a four year starter, O'Neill was All Conference four years and All Region three years. He served as a two-year Captain ('89,'90) and won the NCAA Division III National Championship at Rowan, where his teammates named him the MVP for that season. 

His playing career continued in the professional ranks, after college, while playing for the Philadelphia Freedom. 

O'Neill has a Bachelor of Science degree from Eastern University in Early, Elementary and Special Education, Magna Cum Laude and currently holds a USSF D license.
