Lehman's Melilli Promoted to Head Coach for Women's Soccer
BRONX, N.Y. – Lehman College Director of Athletics Dr. Martin L. Zwiren has announced that Casey Melilli has been elevated to the position of Head Coach for the women's soccer program. Melilli had been the Interim Head Coach for the 2014 campaign, after serving as an assistant coach for the 2013 season.
"Casey has earned this promotion," Zwiren confided. "She has a great rapport with our student-athletes, and they respond well to her. She is the right person to lead this program forward."
Melilli guided the Lightning to an 8-9-1 overall record for the 2014 year, including a 4-2 mark and third place finish in the CUNY Athletic Conference. Lehman then advanced into the post-season for the first time in the program's history, with a spot in the ECAC Metro/Upstate Region Championships.
For her efforts, she was voted the CUNYAC Coach of the Year, in a vote by the head coaches in the league.
"I want to thank Dr. Zwiren and Lehman College for their amazing support," gushed Melilli. "Having been with this excellent group of student-athletes has been an honor, and I look forward to many more years."
