McGowan selected as head women’s soccer coach at Olivet College
OLIVET, Mich. -- Kim McGowan has been named head women's soccer coach at Olivet College, according to an announcement by Athletic Director Dave Sichterman. She officially begins her duties at Olivet on Jan. 19.
"I am very honored and excited about this opportunity Dave Sichterman has given me to impact and lead the women's soccer program," says McGowan. "I feel Olivet College, academically and athletically, has a great foundation to help the student-athletes have a meaningful college experience. The team is young with lots of potential to begin being a very competitive program in the MIAA."
McGowan comes to Olivet after spending the 2014 season as an assistant women's soccer coach at Hiram (Ohio) College. Prior to that, she was an assistant women's soccer coach at Agnes Scott College in Decatur, Georgia, for two seasons. During her time there, the Scotties advanced to two Great South Atlantic Conference tournament championship games, winning it in 2012 and earning the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
A native of Cincinnati, Ohio, McGowan earned a bachelor's of arts degree in sport management from Ohio Northern University (ONU) in 2012 and master's of science degree in sports administration from Georgia State University in December 2013. She holds a NSCAA advance national diploma and national "D" coaching license.
While at ONU, McGowan was a four-year letterwinner at forward on the women's soccer team. She helped the Polar Bears finish second both in the Ohio Athletic Conference regular season standings and in the conference tournament for three straight years. As a senior, McGowan was part of the team which won the OAC regular season championship with an undefeated record before earning the school's first-ever win in the NCAA Tournament. Overall in her four years in an ONU uniform, the Polar Bears had a 58-20-6 record, including a 31-3-2 mark against OAC opponents.
"I am extremely happy to have Kim join the Comet coaching staff," said Sichterman. "She brings playing and coaching experience at the Division III level, which should help her immensely in this position. I look forward to what Kim can do with our program now and in the future."
