Louisiana College has announced the hiring of Samantha Etherington as the sixth head coach in Louisiana College Women's Soccer program history.

Etherington, who has served as a graduate assistant the last two seasons at Division III University Of Dubuque, comes to LC on the heels of a successful five-year run by former LC women's head coach and now head of soccer operations at Evangel University in Missouri, Bruce Deaton.

"I'm excited to come in and continue Coach Deaton's goal of building a program that can contend for American Southwest Conference championships and eventually be one of the region's premier women's soccer programs," said Etherington.

While at Dubuque for the last two seasons, Etherington has worked primarily with midfielders and goal keepers while assisting in every facet of a program that made an NCAA Tournament appearance in 2014 on its way to setting new school records for wins (16), consecutive wins (6), home wins (10), fewest goals allowed (18), and shutouts (10).

Prior to Dubuque, Etherington put together an impressive coaching resume in a short period of time, as she served as a student assistant coach at Nicholls State University from 2012-2013, an assistant at E.D. White High School in Thibodaux  from 2012-2013, and also as the head coach of the U8 Team in the Thibodaux Soccer Association from 2011-2012.

"We want to bring in young ladies who are capable of fitting into our environment at Louisiana College and who fall in line with the philosophies and vision of the college in an effort to make this a truly special destination for people to continue their playing careers and earn their degrees," said Etherington.

Etherington is set to earn her Master's degree in May from Dubuque. She graduated from Nicholls State in 2013 with a Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences while serving as a team captain and team MVP of the women's soccer team in 2011 and 2012.

Prior to Nicholls State, she was a member of the National 5 vs. 5 National Championship Team at Gateshead College in Gateshead, England, where she is a member of the Athletic Hall of Fame.

Etherington was also a member of the Newcastle United Women's Football Club from 2007-2008, where she was team MVP in 2008 as well as a member of the first team squad to compete in the FA Northern Premier League.
