Hope Plays John Carroll To Scoreless Draw
The Hope College women's soccer team played John Carroll University (Ohio) to a scoreless draw on Saturday at Van Andel Soccer Stadium.
The shutout was the second one in as many nights for the Flying Dutch and the third of the season.
Hope is now 1-2-4 overall heading into next week's Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association opener against Kalamazoo College on Saturday, September 28 at Van Andel Soccer Stadium.
The Flying Dutch's four ties matched the 26-year team record for most in a season. Hope finished 10-4-4 overall in 1993.
Hope outshut John Carroll, 18-10.
The Flying Dutch put up five shots alone during the second 10-minute overtime period but ended up without a goal for the fourth time this season.
Junior goalkeeper Jordanne Ellingboe of Grand Haven, Michigan (Grand Haven) collected three saves against John Carroll (3-2-2 overall).
It was the 25th shutout of Ellingboe's career — second among Hope goalies.
Ellingboe moved up to a second-place tie among MIAA leaders with an .837 save percentage.
John Carroll goalie Mackenzie Stease made six saves.
