Game of the Week
Plattsburgh at Brockport
Wednesday, October 2
This week brings us the clash of two traditional powers. The SUNYAC is the home of the first ever national champion Brockport and also a h team that experienced decades of success under the legendary coach Chris Waterbury.
Over the past decade the SUNYAC has been dominated by the two Red Dragon teams. Former standout player Coach Taylor aims to continue the building on the Cardinal tradition of winning established by his mentor.
Brockport had an amazing 2018 season including a league and tournament win against the Cardinals before securing the SUNYAC crown by beating the Cortland Red Dragons.
Plattsburgh entered the game looking for a bit of revenge, but more importantly, needing to get on track in an extremely difficult league.
The Season Thus Far
Brockport entered the game with a winning record overall but struggling at 1-2-0 in the SUNYAC.
Plattsburgh entered the game with a losing record overall but at 2-1-0 in the SUNYAC.
Game On
Brockport began the game on the front foot and applied pressure on the visitors. Junior goalkeeper Ryan Wilson was equal to the task and kept his team in the game keeping the Cardinals in the game despite being out possessed and outshot in the first half. Thanks to Wilson, the score remained 0-0 as Plattsburgh entered the half to regroup after repelling wave after wave of attacks by the home team.
The Cardinal defense continued to hold firm and were rewarded for their hard work in the 77th minute when Freshman Cole Weiner got the winner.
The goal was scored after quick thinking and movement in the box by the freshman who recorded his fifth collegiate goal and the first game-winner of his career to give the visitors the win.
Take Away
Plattsburgh are now 3-1-0 in the conference and seem to be rounding into good form at the right time.
Brockport (6-5-1 / 1-3-0) must start winning league games if they hope to repeat as conference champions.
