Andrew McCabe spent eight years as an assistant coach with Middlebury's men's soccer program. He spent just eight months at his next job, not even coaching a game before he moved on. McCabe left Johnson State, where he was hired in January, to take the head coaching position at Bard.
Both moves were a significant change in level from Middlebury, which has been competitive in the super-competitive NESCAC. Johnson State finished 1-16 last season, while Bard was 3-14-2.
"Bard is a first-rate school that deserves a first-rate soccer program," McCabe said in a department news release. "It's mostly up to the students to grab that opportunity. Hopefully I'll provide the framework that will allow them to excel and achieve their goals."
McCabe told D3sports.com that "a large part of the decision was indeed personal," and that he was helping Johnson State find a replacement.
