Thomas More Falls, 2-1, to No. 16 Wheaton (Ill.) in NCAA First Round
(WHEATON, Ill.) - The Thomas More College men's soccer team fell, 2-1, to eighth-ranked Wheaton (Ill.) College tonight (Friday, November 15, 2013) in a first round match of the 2013 NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Championship at Joe Bean Field in Wheaton, Illinois.
With the loss, the Saints end the season at 15-3-2. With the win, the Thunder improve to 17-3-2 and advance to play either Ohio Northern University or Kenyon College in a second round match tomorrow.
Wheaton took a 1-0 lead when Adam Blackman scored off a Jordan Golz assist at the 24:42 mark. Junior forward Kyle Troutman (Fairfield, Ohio/Fairfield) scored the Saints' equalizer at the 31:32 mark when he connected on a penalty kick.
Blackman scored the Thunder's game-winning goal at the 69:35 mark for the final score of 2-1.
Wheaton out-shot Thomas More, 21-3, including 9-3 on-goal.
Troutman, sophomore forward Austin Juniet (Fort Thomas, Ky./Highlands) and junior midfielder Jake Plummer (North Olmsted, Ohio/Heart for Jesus Christ-Corpus Christi) each had one shot in the match.
Junior goalkeeper Matt Kees (Covington, Ky./Scott) played all 90 minutes in goal and allowed two goal, while recording seven saves.
