Martorano Scores Pair as Rams Blank Rivier

Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State women' soccer team shutout non-conference opponent Rivier College, 2-0, behind two scores from junior forward Theresa Martorano (Commack, N.Y.) this afternoon in Farmingdale, N.Y. The Rams improved to 1-0 on the season.

Farmingdale State broke the scoreless tie 15 minutes into play when senior defender Shannon Kalogeras (Patchogue, N.Y.) intercepted a pass at midfield and setup Martorano in front for the goal. Martorano increased the Rams' lead to 2-0 as she scored from 20 yards out in the 50th minute.

The Rams did not allow a shot in the first half and held a 22-2 shot advantage for the game. The Raiders did not record a shot on goal.

Sophomore goalkeeper Christine Surber (Langdon, N.H.) made 13 saves in the loss for Rivier.

The Rams will now host conference opponent, Bard College, on Saturday, September 3rd at 1:00 p.m. This will be the first of six games slated to play on the home turf in the 3rd Annual Rams Classic on September 3rd and 4th. Along with Bard, Farmingdale will play host to Buffalo State, Salisbury, Ursinus and Western New England College.
