NCAC action began this week! There were 3 wins, 4 ties, and 3 losses for the 10 teams of the Northcoast. Kenyon (8-0-0/1-0-0) continues their perfect season with a 5-0 win over Wittenberg (3-6-2/0-1-0).
DePauw (6-1-1/1-0-0) kept up their recent form with a 2-1 victory over Oberlin (6-3-0/0-1-0). The Tigers are playing some great soccer as we approach midseason. Meanwhile, Hiram (5-2-2/1-0-0) picked up a big 3-1 win over Wooster (2-7-1/0-1-0).
The four teams that tied were Wabash (8-0-1/0-0-1) and Allegheny (1-5-2/0-0-1) and Denison (7-0-1/0-0-1) and Ohio Wesleyan (6-2-2/0-0-1).
Player of the Week: D - John Pretzlav (Jr.) - Hiram
Women
Conference play began this week and four teams are off to winning starts. Denison (9-0-0/1-0-0) remains perfect after beating Ohio Wesleyan (1-7-1/0-1-0) in their opening conference game.
Wooster (7-2-1/1-0-0) picked up an important win over Hiram (3-6-0/0-1-0) and Kenyon (7-3-0/1-0-0) earned a big 3-1 victory over Wittenberg (4-4-1/0-1-0). DePauw (4-3-1/1-0-0) rounds out the group who started off with wins, beating Oberlin (5-3-1/0-1-0) by a 5-1 margin.

Millsaps (6-1-0/1-0-0) defeated Birmingham-Southern (8-1-1/0-1-1) by a 3-1 score in their opening match of SAA play. Centre (4-4-1/ 1-0-0) opened SAA play with a 2-0 win vs Sewanee (3-6-1/0-1-0) and defeated Spalding by a 4-0 scoreline in a non-conference match.

Birmingham-Southern (6-3-0/1-0-0) bounced back after losing to Emory as they beat Agnes Scott 3-0 and opened SAA play with a 3-0 win over Millsaps (2-6-1/0-1-1). Centre (8-1-1/ 0-0-1) defeated a tough Hanover team 3-2 in 2OT and followed that up by drawing with Sewanee (3-3-2/ 0-0-1) 2-2 in their opening SAA match. Hendrix (6-2-1/ 0-0-0) traveled to Southwestern and beat the Pirates by a 1-0 score.

Westminster (7-1-0/1-0-0) has now rattled off seven straight wins, including a 7-1 thumping of Fontbonne (2-6-0/0-1-0) to kick off the conference campaign.
Meanwhile, Blackburn (3-4-1/1-0-0) beat MacMurray (0-9-0/0-1-0) to start conference with a win, while Spalding (4-6-0/1-0-0) beat Eureka (5-2-0/1-1-0) and Greenville (4-6-0/1-0-0) beat Iowa Wesleyan (2-6-0/0-2-0).

There are five teams who have started off their conference seasons with a win: Webster (5-3-0/1-0-0), Spalding (4-3-1/1-0-0), Greenville (4-3-2/1-0-0), Blackburn (4-4-0/1-0-0), and Westminster (Mo.) (3-4-1/1-0-0).
The Gorloks of Webster look poised for another championship run after a solid opening win, while preseason picks Principia (2-6-0/0-1-0) and Fontbonne (3-6-0/0-1-0) will look to rebound quickly after opening week setbacks.

It’s been tough sledding against non-conference competition for the HCACmen's teams, as Rose-Hulman (5-2-2), Transylvania (3-2-4) and Mount. St. Joseph (5-3-0) have been the only programs going .500 or better to date.

The standings reveal a very successful non-conference campaign for the HCAC women's teams. Franklin (7-1-0), Mt. St. Joseph (5-3-1), Hanover (5-4-0) and Anderson (4-3-0) are each over .500.

No. 16 Loras (5-2-1/1-0-0) got their 2015 conference slate off to a strong start Saturday. Goalkeeper Jacob Peterson tallied three saves en route to a clean sheet for the Duhawks, while the offense registered a first half score and two second half goals to knock out Simpson (4-5-1/0-1-0), 3-0. Shutouts have played a key role for the Purple and Gold with four of their five victories decided with similar outcomes.
Rounding out the first weekend of conference action, Luther (6-3-2/1-0-0) posted six goals in a win over Coe (1-6-1/0-1-0), while perennial league top half finisher Wartburg (5-3-1/0-1-0) was side-stepped by Dubuque (5-2-1/1-0-0), 2-0, and Central (4-6-0/1-0-0) rolled past Buena Vista (4-6-0/0-1-0), 3-0.

Loras (6-2-1/1-0-0), Wartburg (7-2-1/1-0-0), Central (6-3-0/1-0-0) and Luther (8-1-0/1-0-0) all gained victories in weekend one of conference play. Wartburg’s 1-0 decision over defending tournament champion Dubuque was the spotlight match, as the Knights toppled the previously No. 24-ranked (NSCAA) Spartans on the road. Senior Brittany Frush’s successful conversion of a penalty kick in the 59th minute determined the outcome.

Ohio Northern holds the best non-conference record ahead of conference play, posting an 8-3-0 record which included a recent string of three straight victories against the HCAC. John Carroll and Mount Union were also impressive out of conference with 5-2-1 marks.

Women
Wilmington (6-3-0) and Baldwin Wallace (5-3-2) were the lone conference teams to forge above .500 marks against non-conference opposition in the same span, while Heidelberg (5-5-0) and Capital (4-4-0) each turned in .500 records.
