Midwest Roundup - Week 4
By D3soccer.com Contributor
As the weekend began there were only 26 undefeated teams left in NCAA Division III men’s soccer. After the weekend's action 20 remain with the Midwest having several representatives. Below are the recaps of some of these teams around the region:
Kentucky
Once again, Transylvania (7-0-0) remains the only undefeated team in the Commonwealth and sits at the top of the HCAC. Transy defeated Thomas More in overtime, 3-2 and shut out Waynesburg, 4-0. On the Pioneers 10 year anniversary of a Sweet 16 run, keep an eye out for this group as they enter conference play soon.
Illinois
Chicago (8-0-0) still dominates the UAA after week 4. The unbeaten Maroons shut out Wheaton (Ill.) and beat Elmhurst, 3-1. Junior Max Lopez's game-winning goal was his fifth of the year which leads all of NCAA Division III, while his ten goals stand sixth nationally.
Ohio
Heidelberg (6-0-0) and their perfect record make them tops of the OAC in the week leading up to conference play. Most significantly, the Student Princes pulled off a big win against in-state rival Kenyon. It will be exciting to watch coach Pat Svihlik and this group over the coming weeks.
John Caroll (7-0-1) battled Carnegie Melon to a 1-1 draw over the weekend; marking the first game they didn’t win this season. Coach Hector Marinaro and the Blue Streaks begin OAC play this Saturday.
Missouri
Washington U. (5-0-1) continues to be undefeated. They handed Wheaton another loss, 1-0 in double overtime. The Bears are unbeaten in their last eight games dating back to last season. Head Coach Joe Clarke begins UAA action, which always includes a lot of miles traveled - next weekend.
As the rest of the teams transition into conference play, the stakes are a bit higher. This is where it becomes exciting!
