Midwest Roundup - Week 7

Week Seven shaped up to be a massive week for many teams across the region who have begun conference play with multiple strong performances. Among those teams with undefeated conference records thus far, they will aim to continue their winning ways this week as the midway points of conference play are upon most.
ILLINOIS
MacMurray (4-7-0 / 2-1-0) is coming off two back-to-back SLIAC conference wins over Blackburn and Greenville. Both matches ended in a 2-1 scoreline in favor of the Highlanders. Along with both wins, Sophomore Goalkeeper, Brantley Estes earned SLIAC Defensive Player of the Week honors. Coach Mansholt and the Highlanders will face SLIAC opponents Eureka on Wednesday and a very hot Spalding side this weekend.
OHIO
Ohio Wesleyan (8-3-2 / 3-0-0) extended their winning streak to four games this past week, knocking off NCAC opponents Oberlin and Wooster by a combined score of 7-0. The Battling Bishops defense has not conceded a goal during the four-game winning streak and will aim to continue their strong defensive performances against Kenyon and Allegheny in NCAC play this week. Coach Martin and his team will host both games this week with the goal of remaining undefeated in conference play.
KENTUCKY
Transylvania (6-5-0 / 3-0-0) boosted its Heartland Conference record to 3-0-0 this past week with victories over Earlham and Manchester. The Pioneers have shut out their first three conference opponents during the three-game winning streak. Coach Vogel and his side will hit the road this week with matches at Mount St. Joseph and Defiance aiming to remain undefeated in conference play.
Spalding University (9-2-2 / 3-0-0) have opened up their new downtown soccer facility with three wins in a row to begin SLIAC conference play. Coach Boyer and his team won a double overtime thriller midweek against Westminster (Mo.) and capped off the week defeating Webster. The Golden Eagle defense has posted three shutouts in a row while the offense has outscored opponents 5-0 with the help from Senior Kornell Hilliard, who captured SLIAC Offensive Player of the Week honors. Spalding will hit the road this week, traveling to Iowa Wesleyan and MacMurray for two SLIAC conference matches.
INDIANA
Wabash (8-3-1 / 3-0-0) extended their winning streak to four matches this past week with a massive NCAC conference wins over Allegheny 2-1 at home. The Little Giants are undefeated in their last six matches with five wins and one draw while scoring 16 goals and only allowing four. Coach Keller and his side will face two tough NCAC opponents this week when they host Denison on Wednesday and travel to Kenyon on Saturday.
IOWA
Simpson (13-1-1 / 3-0-0) are on an 11 game unbeaten streak with 10 wins out of 11 games. The Storm had a busy week with three matches, which included victories over Coe and Luther while tying Concordia-Moorhead. Freshman, Jordy Triana-Vasquez, emerged last week with two game-winning goals that earned him ARC Offensive Player of the Week honors. Coach Isaacson and his team will travel to Buena Vista and Loras this week for two important ARC matches.
MICHIGAN
Alma (5-6-0 / 2-0-0) began MIAA conference play with wins over Olivet and Albion last week. Coach Greer and his side posted six goals combined in the victories. MIAA Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week honors were swept by Tanner Parrett and Garrison Mast with impressive performances for Alma. The Scots will carry momentum into this week’s matches against Calvin and Kalamazoo on the road.
