Midwest Roundup - Week 8

The 2017 season is about to be wrapped up. It’s always hard to believe how quickly September and October pass and the post season suddenly appears just around the corner!
Kentucky
Transylvania (13-1-0 / 6-1-0) bounced back this week from their first loss of the season and won two games shutting out both Franklin, 5-0, and Anderson, 1-0. Senior midfielder Riley Calhoon continues to lead the HCAC in both goals (13) and points (27) this season. The Pioneers remain in a three-way tie with Hanover and Rose-Hulman at the top of the HCAC.
Indiana
Hanover (11-4-0 / 6-1-0) won their matches against Earlham, 1-0, and Defiance, 3-2. The Hanover Panthers will look to keep pace atop the HCAC standings when the team hosts Mount St. Joseph this Wednesday.
Rose-Hulman (11-4-1 / 6-1-0) improved their winning streak to six games this past week. The Engineers defeated Mount St. Joseph, 3-1. They also shut out Bluffton, 1-0, their eighth shutout this season. Rose-Hulman will play Franklin this Wednesday in hopes of securing the HCAC top seed.
Ohio
Kenyon (12-2-2 / 7-0-0) continues unblemished in the NCAC with their seventh conference victory. The Lords earned a big win against Ohio Wesleyan, which marked the third straight regular-season win in the series, a feat last accomplished in 1954-56. On Saturday, Kenyon shut out DePauw, 1-0. Next up for the Lords is a match against Oberlin on October 25. If the Lords defeat the Yeomen, they'll win their third consecutive NCAC regular-season crown.
Otterbein (13-2-0 / 7-0-0) in the OAC is also kept on track to a perfect conference regular season with sixth and seventh victories. The No. 25 (United Soccer Coaches) Cardinals earned their way into the national poll for the first time since 2003. Otterbein defeated the defending OAC champions D3soccer.com No. 10 John Carroll, 2-1, in overtime. The Otterbein Cardinals also beat Baldwin Wallace, securing their eleventh straight win of the season. Coach Jason Griffiths became the fourth men’s soccer coach in the OAC history to win a regular-season championship in his first season at the helm.
Missouri
Fontbonne (11-4-1 / 6-1-0) sits atop the SLIAC after weeks’ worth of in conference competition. Although the Griffins were outshot 17-9 against , the Griffins made their shots count and prevailed 3-2. On Saturday, they dominated (17 to 1 shots on goal) their match against MacMurray, leading to a 2-0 final.
Illinois
Chicago (13-2-0 / 3-1-0) is in a four-way tie in the UAA with Brandeis, Rochester, and Emory. D3Soccer.com No. 3 Chicago suffered their second loss of the season against No. 25 North Park. The Chicago Maroons look to break the four-way tie as they travel to New York for a match against New York University on Friday.
While majority of teams already know if they have qualified for their conference post season tournament, most seeds are still to be determined. We can expect more spirited action in the week ahead as the regular season wraps up for all but the UAA.
