Midwest Roundup - Week 6

Week six in D-III soccer saw teams carry a lot of momentum from their non-conference schedule into strong starts in conference play.

ILLINOIS

North Central (Ill.) (7-3-1 / 2-0-0) picked up a pair of wins last week, which included a solid CCIW conference win on the road at Wheaton (Ill.) 3-2 in double overtime. Their weekend match against Benedictine ended in a 2-0 win to extend their winning streak to four games. Coach Fuschino and his team will continue CCIW play this week hosting Illinois Wesleyan and Carroll. The Cardinals will aim to continue their undefeated start in conference play this week in Naperville.

OHIO

Kenyon (10-1-0 / 2-0-0) extended their winning streak to nine games after an NCAC clash against Wittenberg in the Lord’s only contest last week. Coach Brown and his side will host Denison in their third conference game this Saturday with their sights set on remaining in the top five in the national rankings and extending their winning streak to double digits. The Lords have notched 24 goals and allowed only five goals during their current winning streak.

KENTUCKY

Centre (8-3-1 / 1-1 -0) bounced back in the win column by defeating conference foe, Berry, on the road. The Colonels then traveled to Maryville and picked up another 2-1 win. Coach Burch and his team will return home this weekend for two SAA conference matches against Hendrix and Rhodes.

INDIANA

Rose-Hulman (8-2-0 / 1-0-0) extended their winning streak to three games on Saturday at Bluffton after a 2-0 victory to give the Fighting Engineers a 1-0 start in conference play. Coach Helliwell and his side will host two conference matches this week against Mount St. Joseph and Defiance in Terre Haute. The Fighting Engineers have shut out all of their opponents during their winning streak and hope to continue their strong form.

IOWA

Central (10-1-1 / 2-0-0)) knocked off another top 10 and ARC opponent, Loras, over the weekend 3-2 at home. The winning streak has given Central a 2-0 start in conference play and a lot of momentum going forward. Coach Laidlaw and the Dutch will travel to Nebraska Wesleyan midweek and cap the week off at home vs. Dubuque. The Dutch have set themselves up as strong favorites early on to win the ARC.

MICHIGAN

Hope (7-4-0 / 0-0-0) snapped their brief losing streak and started their own winning streak of two games after defeating Illinois Wesleyan and Alma. Hope posted two shutout victories and notched five goals total. The flying dutchman will begin MIAA conference play by hosting a tough, nationally ranked opponent, Calvin, on Tuesday. Coach Brandt and his side will finish the week at Kalamazoo aiming to complete a strong showing this week.
